VISCOSE
PROCESS
PLANT
The viscose process used to produce rayon fiber, cellulose sponges, sausage casings, tea bags and other viscose based products, uses and emits to atmosphere large quantities of carbon disulfide. The atmospheric emissions of these viscose process plants generally have large air flows and low CS2 and H2S concentrations.
The Sulfox®REG process has been specifically designed to address these conditions. The SulfoxREG oxidizes CS2 and H2S to sulfur trioxide in a proprietary catalyst then form sulfuric acid by condensation. The concentrated acid is then collected in a wet electrostatic precipitator. The collected acid is suitable in purity and concentration to be used in the viscose production process, making the SulfoxREG a zero discharge process.
AirScience Technologies and its partner Kanzler Verfahrenstechnik (KVT) have installed various SulfoxREG systems in the viscose industry.
